Post-Christmas Resolution, Day 176 – Members, Not Membership

Delivered the keynote address this morning for the District 7 Toastmasters Leadership Institute conference. The subject was membership.

toastmasters logoOver the past year, I’ve been the VP of Membership for Timber Talkers, a Toastmasters club in Beaverton. We’ve added over 20 new members during that time.

Through my highly unscientific observations,  I’ve concluded that the secret to having a growing membership is rather simple.

If you focus on the needs of the guest or member, you will have success.

The needs?

  • A safe environment
  • A feeling of connection
  • Fun!
Care about your guests, and they will care about you.

About Eric Winger

Our perception of time is key to how we use our time. The most fundamental way to change that perception is to give our time. This opens us up to new opportunities and ideas from which we can build to really make a difference. ... Yes, we *do* have time to make a difference!
