Be The Mirror, Not The Light

“We cannot hold a torch to light another’s path without brightening our own. ”

— Ben Sweetland

If you find it difficult to talk about giving time, charity, or service to others because you feel it shines a light too brightly on yourself, consider this.

If we don’t talk about giving time, charity, or service then who will?

But talking will sound like boasting if we only talk about our own good deeds. How can we talk about it then?

Instead of shining the light on ourselves, become a mirror. Become  a mirror that reflects the light onto the people we’re helping. Reflect the light onto those that need help more than us. And when that light shines on those that need help, we are also lighting a path for others to follow, so that they too can help light the path.

Be the mirror, not the light.

Even though I had to leave my daughter’s concert early to help out at another meeting, I tried to make sure she knew how much she shined tonight by bringing her home some ice cream.

About Eric Winger

Our perception of time is key to how we use our time. The most fundamental way to change that perception is to give our time. This opens us up to new opportunities and ideas from which we can build to really make a difference. ... Yes, we *do* have time to make a difference!
