Dedicated to anyone who feels they failed to make a difference.
Utter Failure
I didn’t make the sun shine,
There wasn’t a single ray;
No matter what I do,
I can’t make a sunny day.
I didn’t win the lotto,
Wealth just slipped away.
No matter what I do,
Good luck just doesn’t come my way.
I didn’t write a famous book,
Or create a big hit play;
No matter what I do,
My stories weren’t good enough to pay.
I have yet to change the world,
I really hate to say;
No matter what I do,
I’m sure to fail every day.
Failure’s such an ugly word,
A word heard often these days;
No matter what I do,
I can’t make it go away.
That doesn’t mean I have to listen,
To those who like to nay-say;
No matter what I do,
Those people will never go away.
Some talk without listening,
They shout their opinions all day;
No matter what I do,
I just have to walk away.
They may call me a fool,
A guy without a label to display;
No matter what I do,
I’ll never be good enough, or even ok.
They say that giving is a waste,
That I should use my time a better way;
No matter what I do,
I just don’t want to live that way.
It’s a different kind of life I seek,
I want to help in some small way;
No matter what I do,
I want to give a little every day.
I want to share what I have and help where I can,
Not later, soon, or even some day;
No matter what I do,
I have much to give today.
It’s not always about me,
From time to time I can put my needs away;
No matter what I do,
Generosity is here to stay.
We reach for the stars, fame, glory,
And can get really carried away;
But no matter what big things we do,
It’s the small things that carry the day.
So if I’m an utter failure,
For only giving a little every day,
Then no matter what I do,
Let me fail in this grand and glorious way!

So very poignant, beautiful, and cathartic, Eric. Thank you for that. Stay well. ~Paul
